Reproductive health care is a basic human right. Abortion services are an essential part of reproductive health care for women.
The Scott Clinic provides abortion services under local anesthetic in a freestanding clinic setting. We aim to maintain the highest possible standards in an atmosphere of respect and dignity. We work to fully integrate our services with our patients' already established medical care and within the framework of existing medical services and practices in our province and country.
The Scott Clinic was founded in 1986 by Dr. Robert H. Scott and Maria Corsillo. It was licensed as an Independent Health Facility in 1991. Dr. Scott was prosecuted along with Dr. Henry Morgentaler resulting in the landmark 1988 Supreme Court decision which decriminalized abortion in Canada.
In 1998, Dr. Scott was awarded the National Abortion Federation's C. Lalor Burdick Award as one of the unsung heroes in abortion care. Maria Corsillo, who has been the clinic manager since 1986, served on the Board of Directors of the National Abortion Federation from 1992 - 2000.
